Copacabana to dance at Cheltenham
Regular readers will know that I strongly fancied Copacabana on debut and tipped him on the day.
This Blue Bresil gelding was working better than your average bumper winner and showed a lot of ability on the racetrack also on debut at Navan.
I was taken by that performance. He seemed to travel through the race with ease and looked a no nonsense individual with a great temperament. He also looked like he had plenty more gears, and has staying power to go with the speed as it took Patrick a while to pull him up.
There isn’t a lot of bumper horses with good form this year, it looks a below average renewal of the Cheltenham Bumper.
Windbeneathmywings is way too short in the betting after winning easily at Ascot, a track where you can’t take the form too literally. I’d make this horse a 20/1 shot.
Kalypsochance is unbeaten but in weak races and hung left a little bit under pressure. I don’t think he has shown enough to be favourite and might lay it for a place in the day.
Bambino Fever won well at the DRF but the race fell apart somewhat. I don’t think it beat anything of note with Final Demand disappointing.
The other horses need to show a great deal of improvement to get involved.
At 8/1 Copacabana looks a good bet for a yard with an excellent record in the race.
Assuming good fortune, this could be a smart horse over the coming years.
Selection: Copacabana, Cheltenham Bumper, 8/1.
