Free Daily Tips: 17th February
I can’t start anything today without a word on yesterday’s sad news about Michael O’Sullivan. I’ll keep it simple – what a man, and what a jockey. Taken far too soon and thoughts go out to family & friends. It puts betting into perspective, betting is entertainment and doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
The racing world goes on though, and I’m sure courses and punters up and down the country will have Michael in their thoughts.
Carlisle
1:20 Kingston Rock. An average maiden but his fifth last time out has received a form boost and he has a good chance of breaking the maiden tag today.
1:50 Barrowdale. A chasing type who returned from a huge absence for his last run and will have needed it. This horse took apart a maiden hurdle field three years ago now and has hardly been seen at the track since. Strong chance of stepping forward with the run under his belt.
2:20 Saint Malinas. Made a positive start to his hurdling career in December and has scope for improvement.
2:50 The Wolf. Arrives seeking a hat trick and can defy top weight with a clean round of jumping under Sean Bowen.
3:20 Joltin N Jiving. Looked to have potential when second on hurdles debut at Bangor and surely will improve on that. The opposition looks thin and Brian Hughes could simply have a steering job.
3:55 Reel Rosie. Fair chance of defying top weight under Sean Quinlan. Handicap debut.
4:30 Hello Judge. Won this race last year and can bounce back from a few below par runs at a track and trip we know he likes.
5:05 Broughshane. Has won two of his three handicap hurdles this season and the form of his latest win has been franked since. Runs well fresh.
Southwell
1:35 Illogical Logic. Considering he is yet to win a race his form looks good in this field. This looks to be a step down in grade effectively compared to recent runs (rivals aren’t as good) and he gets a stone off the favourite Ali Star Bert.
2:05 Doyouknowwhatimean. His form last season entitles him to take this race. Can bounce back to form if first time Cheekpieces do the trick.
2:35 Hairy Potter. Looked like he needed the experience first time up when a big priced outsider. Will be a big price again here but certainly isn’t out of things.
3:05 Beau Quali. Plenty to like about his three UK runs and was pulling a train when falling last time out. Certainly capable of atoning for that error by winning here today. Looks to have Wolf Moon to beat, but despite a promising debut run I think Wolf Moon is probably one for handicaps.
3:40 Mokoro. Hasn’t showed anything at the racetrack so far really, but looking at his connections I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this horse is transformed on handicap debut, given a step up in trip, and off a long break.
4:15 Instant De Bonheur. Now 0-9 under rules and didn’t run well on New Years Day. She carries a low weight here though in what isn’t a strong race so I’m chancing her at what will be a huge price.
4:45 Gotthereintheend. Has shown good form so far, including when pulling clear alongside the eventual winner over course and distance last time out. A repeat of that run would see her hard to beat.
Wolverhampton
4:25 Way Of Life. Hasn’t win in 29 runs but not beyond the realms of possibility he can make it 30th time lucky at a nice big price. Handily weighted and down in trip.
5:00 Ciotog. Won over course and distance in January and is ignored in the betting today due to the presence of a few more recent winners.
5:30 El Ghaawy. A well related Ghaiyyath gelding. This isn’t a strong race to make your debut in.
6:00 Fallen Soldier. Ran a good race to be third last time out and jockey Warren Fentiman is riding well currently, his claim will help.
6:30 Marioento. Promising run at this track only a week ago when looking like a longer trip was needed. Gets a longer trip today and is very unexposed.
7:00 Neptune Legend. Third only three days ago when better was expected and the visor goes back on today. Connections are clearly trying to get another win.
7:30 Available Angel. Will be the rank outsider but has a first time visor tried today. Certainly not out of things at the weights.
8:00 One More Dream. Good run five days ago and should really be a strong favourite to win this.
8:30 Hierarchy. Good second five days ago and this C&D winner has a great chance of gracing the winners enclosure again here.
Happy punting
