Free Daily Tips: 2nd February
What a day, we certainly tipped some winners yesterday as the following horses won: Crackerjacque 16/1, Latin Five 14/1, Florida Dawn 8/1, Lady Dreamer 85/40, Frankie’s Dream 6/4, Final Demand 11/8, Mossy Fenn Road 11/10, Jet Plane 1/1, Majborough 4/5, Lu D’Or 4/7.
Todays selections:
Leopardstown
12:40 Queens Gamble. Not many English horses travel over for some reason despite the high prize money but this one does. Rattled off a hat trick last season for a different trainer and was a fair second on her reappearance. She concedes weight all round in this handicap but has the services of Rachel Blackmore.
1:10 Ballyburn. Readers will know this is my antepost bet for the Brown Advisory at the Cheltenham Festival and needs to be winning this if he has a chance of landing my money. I do think this horse wants three miles, and this is still on the short side, but it’s a lot easier than trying to beat a natural two miler in Sir Gino over two miles that’s for sure. Of his rivals, Impaire Et Passé is a good horse but I think lacks the quality of a Ballyburn in the top grade one events. Champ Kiely won for me on his reappearance after a long time off the track but this is a massive jump in class for the nine year old. The Gordon Elliott pair need to grow wings to be competitive on all known form and the other two will be approaching the second last as the winner jumps the last.
1:40 Kopek Des Bordes. Cannot be opposed unless my eyes are deceiving me, or we see a repeat of what happened to Saint Lucie who just went out like a light as if something went wrong. Kopek Des Bordes did everything wrong and still absolutely hacked up on hurdles debut so has a serious engine. I’d expect him to jump better today which should put him at an unreachable standard for the others. Kaid D’authie has also shown jumping frailties including falling at Navan, whilst the maiden he won last time wasn’t the strongest. The one I fear most is the 14/1 shot Good and Clever, but his trainer would struggle to saddle the winner in a one runner race usually.
2:10 Gaelic Warrior. Streets ahead of these on his best form. Last year’s Arkle winner. Has been brought along steadily with the DRF and Cheltenham in mind and I expect him to revert to the successful front running tactics of last season. Tongue strap goes back on today. El Fabiolo was a good horse but I wouldn’t trust him to jump over a daisy without falling nowadays and he hasn’t been seen in 281 days. Marine Nationale built up a reputation as a serious horse but it was a rubbish Supreme Novices he won in hindsight and he hasn’t got better. Solness has taken advantage of some good placing by his trainer to win a few races he shouldn’t have and will probably struggle today when not allowed to dominate from the front. Quillixios isn’t a grade one horse, and neither is Captain Guinness who only won a Queen Mother due to mistakes by others during the race.
2:45 James Du Berlais. A frustrating strike rate for a horse with his ability. Was third in this last year. This is a bang average handicap and he has a fair chance without being thrown in.
3:20 State Man. Ran his first poor race last time out when well beaten by Brighterdaysahead but I think Paul Townend realised the race was gone and he had given the mare too much rope, so looked after State Man. State Man has won the last two runnings of this race and has been a money making machine in the grade one races for a few years now. He is also the reigning Champion Hurdler let’s not forget. Paul Townend chooses him over the mare Lossiemouth. Lossiemouth was beaten behind Constitution Hill last time, which is understandable, but looked to me like she needs 2miles5 nowadays to be seen at her best. She gets her 7lb fillies allowance here which will help but she will need it. The other runners will need to set off at 3:15 to be involved in the finish of this 3:20 race.
3:50 Storm Heart. Paul Townend was very disappointed when getting off this horse in last year’s Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle as he expected to win. Makes its handicap debut here off the back of a long absence and could be a handicap blot at a good price.
4:25 Future Prospect. A £150k purchase who made a terrific start when winning a bumper at Fairyhouse first time up. That is the best bumper form in this field. He made the running, was briefly challenged on the home turn but shot clear when asked. He absolutely hammered a 6/5 Gordon Elliott favourite that day and Gordon doesn’t even bother sending one up against him today. Patrick Mullins will have had the pick of the Mullins horses here and he has probably chosen wisely. This horse has the Cheltenham bumper entry and could be a short price to bring up the festival double after he wins here.
Musselburgh
1:22 Tripoli Flyer. Uninspiring selection but the others have it all to do to stand a chance of finishing near this horse.
1:55 Asta La Pasta. Best form in the race and is in good heart at present.
2:25 King Turgeon. Carries top weight over a marathon distance but looks the most likely to still be plugging on at the end. I can see not many horses completing the course. Looks to be a much better horse after the breathing op.
3:00 Samui. Showed a lot of talent when Gordon Elliott sent him for a few spins on the flat in a few top staying races. Looks to be an attempt this season to smuggle him under the radar ahead of a crack at the Pertempts Final and he could be a big player. 8/1 overnight is simply too big.
3:35 Teddy Blue. The form of this horse is useless. No sign of improvement on his first start for this yard over hurdles in November. I hear fences are expected to bring about improvement and the yards stable jockey rides this instead of a DRF favourite. I’ll follow the whisper.
4:05 Belvedere Blast. Won well under this 10lb claimer last time and can follow up with question marks over the other runners.
4:34 My Noble Lord. Absolutely thrown in at the weights with a weight for age allowance. Hasn’t troubled the judge in graded races the last twice but makes handicap debut.
Lingfield
1:00 Union Island. Ran well again a week ago and returns to a mile today which is his optimal trip.
1:32 Cinnodin. Poor race, but this horse is best caught first time out and won on his return last season.
2:05 Neapolitan. 40/1 overnight but will be carrying a small amount of my money. Has been running in races he can’t win and today’s handicap is a little more realistic.
2:37 Mitbaahy. How often do you see a horse that was fancied for the July Cup at Royal Ascot make its next run on a Sunday at Lingfield the following February. In fairness this is the Class 1 Kachy stakes and is worth winning. Has had a breathing op since last seen and could hose up if he takes to polytrack. Nice price.
3:12 Just Like Magic. Has had the three obligatory run to qualify for a handicap mark and this Acclaim colt has shown improvement in each start to date. Much more unexposed than the others.
3:45 Mc Loven. Twice a course winner and drops back from 6f to 5f today which will suit better.
4:17 Alafdhal. Is in good form and blinkers go back on today. A wide draw is a slight concern but Grace McEntee is a capable rider.
Happy punting
