Horse Racing Betting Tips for today, 2nd August 2025.
It’s a busy Saturday across the cards with a good mix of quality racing and competitive handicaps. My nap of the day by a country mile is Isaac Newton in the 4:20 at Goodwood for the Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Moore combination. I simply cannot see this horse losing today, but the price is likely to be quite short and I expect it to be well backed. This horse looks a superstar.
Other horses with a good chance today include Rikki Tikki Tavi in the 1:38 at Thirsk for trainer Kevin Ryan. He sets a good standard on the form of his two runs to date.
I also like Strike Red at around 14/1 in the red hot Stewards Cup, 3:05 Goodwood. It’s a cavalry charge with 25+ runners and the horse will be ridden for luck – so as much as I fancy him, he doesn’t make the Final Cut.
Those that do make the cut:
Al Aasy – 1:20 Goodwood. Barring something going wrong, this horse just wins. The horse won this race last year and conditions will be spot on. His usual running style is to sit and wait before pouncing late on with a burst of speed. Jockey Jim Crowley really shouldn’t find traffic problems in today’s small field and the horse has a class edge on his rivals.
Silent Love – 3:20 Newmarket – is another who should be winning. This Godolphin filly looks to be a better class than her rivals. One small concern is that neither of the stable jockeys William Buick or James Doyle are aboard here, but that may not matter. Billy Loughnane is a solid replacement and whilst Silent Love may not be the best horse in her stable, she should be accounting for this lot.
Some Pretender – 3:52 Galway – makes her racecourse debut at the Galway Festival for the all conquering Willie Mullins stable. Patrick Mullins takes the ride, as he does on all the stables #1 choices in bumpers, and will fancy his chances. There is nothing else in the race with an appealing pedigree or scope to be as progressive as our selection.
