Our ‘Daily Trio’ selections for 12th January.

Today, all eyes turn to the lush pastures of County Kildare as Punchestown Racecourse hosts a highly anticipated day of horse racing. Known as the beating heart of Irish jump racing, Punchestown never fails to deliver on excitement, drama, and top-class competition. It’s also the only meeting to beat the weather today.

The opening race sees Shantou Princess making its debut over fences. This previous point winner won over hurdles last time out so comes into this race in good form. The improvement over hurdles came from a step up in trip, and we stick to a similar trip today. The other horses need to find quite a bit of improvement to get involved, although Nay is unexposed at a big price. Selection: Shantou Princess, 12:25 Punchestown, 1 point win. (lost) (Nay won at 33/1)

Second up on the card is a nice little novice chase. Lecky Watson will go off as favourite having won well on chase debut. If he repeats that performance then he deserves favouritism, but I have nagging doubts around consistency. Down Memory Lane is a good solid grade 3 horse, but Sandown last time out exposed limitations. Farren Glory isn’t anywhere near as fancied as the main two market principles but will be my selection. He is top rated, has more experience, and the race could be run to suit this horse as the others focus on each other. Selection: Farren Glory, 12:55 Punchestown, 1 point win. (lost)

Toon Town makes its chase debut in the 1:25. It ran 9th over hurdles last time and has changed trainers since. The positive is that it has joined Gavin Cromwell’s yard, and could have upside over fences. The opposition is thin, so improvement on previous form will see our selection go close. The race favourite Papa Barns is yet to win in 19 starts (Toon Town did win over hurdles). Selection: Toon Town, 1:25 Punchestown, 1 point win. (lost)

Also have a 1 point treble.

Happy punting

Points? How do I bet? Simply think of a point as your preferred unit stake. If you want to bet in £10s then you would have 3x £10 wins and an £10 treble.

What is the Daily Trio strategy?

The proven betting system and recommended bet is three singles and a treble. As a rough rule of thumb: one winner = money back, two winners = double your money, three winners = jackpot!

Why does the Daily Trio strategy work?

Mav operates at roughly a 33% strike rate for winners over the year, so around one in three selections win. Assuming each winner is 3/1 on average (some are much higher) then each year we should see money back at least based on purely the single bets alone, and the profit comes from the trebles
