Our Daily Trio selections for Sunday 19th January 2025
We welcome back Windsor again to the jumps fold and some decent horses have turned up for the good prize money. Well I say good prize money, it’s good for England but that’s a whole new debate as we all know we are lagging behind other jurisdictions there.
It should be a good days racing on decent ground, and I’m looking forward to a Sunday afternoon in front of the TV. If the kids don’t pinch it for the Xbox anyway (likely).
Paul Nicholls is struggling a bit in recent years with low quality horses in his yard, certainly compared to the glory years of Kauto Star, Denmark etc when he was champion trainer most years. He is a trainer on the decline – Dan Skelton will take his place – but he can still get the job done and I fancy his horse Fasol at Windsor today. The horse is a maiden over jumps and wears both a tongue strap and cheekpieces which suggests he isn’t exactly straightforward, but a step up in trip will help and this six year old showed good form on the flat in France. Selection: Fasol, 1:20 Windsor, 1 point win.
Protektorat has been stuffed so far this season showing nothing like his Ryanair winning form, but lines up with a very fair chance today. He was easily beaten by Djelo from the Venetia Williams yard last time out although I think that was the ceiling of Djelo’s ability, and that Protektorat has been brought along steadily. If Protektorat turns up at 80% this time then he wins. He was only 2.5 lengths behind Jonbon at Aintree, after winning at the Cheltenham Festival, and his form lines are a class apart from this field. Selection: Protektorat, 3:05 Windsor, 1 point win. (Won at 10/3)
Ramillies has top class back form. On 29 Jan 2023 he was first past the post in a Grade 3 at Naas under Paul Townend, beating subsequent Grade 2 winner TheDevilsCoachman. The list of horses beaten by Ramillies include Grade 3 winner Journey With Me and Aintree Grand National winner Noble Yeats. He runs today in a Hunter chase where he carries 5lb less than his rivals. This ex Willie Mullins horse moved to leading point to point trainer D Christie just over a year ago for a very decent fee, and has been campaigned in that sphere recently. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up for another crack at Cheltenham. If he is to do that, 6/1 here (odds at time of writing) are an absolute gift. Selection: Ramillies, 3:45 Thurles, 1 point win,
Remember to also have a 1 point treble on the three above.
Happy punting

Points? How do I bet? Simply think of a point as your preferred unit stake. If you want to bet in £10s then you would have 3x £10 wins and an £10 treble.

What is the Daily Trio strategy?
The proven betting system and recommended bet is three singles and a treble. As a rough rule of thumb: one winner = money back, two winners = double your money, three winners = jackpot!
Why does the Daily Trio strategy work?
Mav operates at roughly a 33% strike rate for winners over the year, so around one in three selections win. Assuming each winner is 3/1 on average (some are much higher) then each year we should see money back at least based on purely the single bets alone, and the profit comes from the trebles.
