Our ‘Daily Trio’ selections for 16th January 2025
After a tough few days of mediocre racing and struggling to pick one selection never mind three, we are back with a bang today as quite a few horses meet my selection criteria.
Horses of interest to me today include Beau Quali (11:55), Ideal Des Bordes (12:50), Jacks Jury (1:15), Queens Wish (12:25), Jet Plane (3:35), Oracle Park (4:05), Juventus De Brion (1:00), Theatre Native (12:00), and Blue Carpet (3:54). (lost)
So that’s the shortlist, but what about the three selections that made the cut?
Juventus De Brion has to be on there. He ran a great race at Chepstow last time out, appearing to have lots more to give at the end. Dan Skelton reaches for a first time tongue strap which should help and it looks to be a ‘point and shoot’ job. He isn’t a massive price at just above even money but it still looks a good price for a horse that really should win. Selection: Juventus De Brion, 1:00 Newcastle, 1 point win. (lost)
Blue Carpet dotted up in a Carlisle bumper in the Autumn, having been held up and showing a fair bit of class. It wasn’t the strongest race, and he now carries a small penalty, but this brother to Blue Bresil was margin for a lot more last time and a similar performance would see him win again. The current race favourite is Geordie Mackem, who finished third after being well supported. He will have to show quite a bit more to finish ahead of our guy. Selection: Blue Carpet, 3:54 Newcastle, 1 point win. (lost)
Jet Plane goes in the four runner race at Ludlow, 3:35. He is making his hunter chase debut and looks a class apart assuming all is well with him. He was a winner twice last spring and ran quite well on season debut at Wetherby in October. Heidi Palin claims 5lb also which will help. As I’m looking at the early prices this horse is actually third favourite out of four runners, although at 7/4 he is only marginally behind Bardenstown Lad and Eva’s Oscar who are both 13/8. I imagine prices will drift on at least one of those three horses so get best odds guaranteed if you can. Selection: Jet Plane, 3:35 Ludlow, 1 point win. Non Runner)

Points? How do I bet? Simply think of a point as your preferred unit stake. If you want to bet in £10s then you would have 3x £10 wins and an £10 treble.
What is the Daily Trio strategy?
The proven betting system and recommended bet is three singles and a treble. As a rough rule of thumb: one winner = money back, two winners = double your money, three winners = jackpot!
Why does the Daily Trio strategy work?
Mav operates at roughly a 33% strike rate for winners over the year, so around one in three selections win. Assuming each winner is 3/1 on average (some are much higher) then each year we should see money back at least based on purely the single bets alone, and the profit comes from the trebles.
