Our ‘Daily Trio’ tips for 18th January 2025
It’s a brilliant Saturday of racing, with the highlight being Jonbon vs Energumene. My opinion on the race is that there may not be much between them today, but I’d expect Jonbon to win at Cheltenham regardless. Energumene is more of a bridle horse and will be suited to today’s conditions, plus is a massive price at around 9/4 so will get my vote purely on price alone. He isn’t a selection for the final three today though.
Selections:
Bad is its name and bad have been its results for punters. Bad has been so frustrating, although last time was the only time it carried my cash. It ran well last time out, leading more or less the whole way and jumping well until a better handicapped horse came to win. I fancy Bad to win a good race over fences and at a very nice price (8s available) he will be carrying the weight of my money again. Selection: Bad, 2:15 Ascot. 1 point win. (lost)
Three Card Brag is a very good horse for a maiden novice chase. He has tons of ability but evidently isn’t the most straightforward, with the cheekpieces coming back today. He needs to be ridden with a little more patience than last time out but I’m sure lessons will have been learnt. The massive market rival is Olympic Man, but he finished tamely last time after travelling much the best. We could see a good price for ours as the punters steam into Olympic Man instead. Selection: Three Card Brag, 2:20 Navan, 1 point win. (Won at 3/1)
Eachtotheirown looks to be an above average bumper recruit. He’s going well at home apparently, and although he really will be a horse for a longer trip he may have enough speed to get the job done here first time up over two miles. A good win and he could be seen again at the DRF. Selection: Eachtotheirown, 3:25 Navan, 1 point win. (lost)
Also have a 1 point treble on the three selections.
Happy punting

Points? How do I bet? Simply think of a point as your preferred unit stake. If you want to bet in £10s then you would have 3x £10 wins and an £10 treble.
What is the Daily Trio strategy?
The proven betting system and recommended bet is three singles and a treble. As a rough rule of thumb: one winner = money back, two winners = double your money, three winners = jackpot!
Why does the Daily Trio strategy work?
Mav operates at roughly a 33% strike rate for winners over the year, so around one in three selections win. Assuming each winner is 3/1 on average (some are much higher) then each year we should see money back at least based on purely the single bets alone, and the profit comes from the trebles.
