Our Daily Trio Selections for Sunday 2nd February

What a first day it was at the Dublin Racing Festival. Final Demand won for us when bolting up in the opener, before Saint Lucie went wrong in the second. Majborough wasn’t foot perfect at his fences but looked a serious horse, winning in a canter. The highlight was seeing Galopin Des Champs bring the roof down in winning his third Irish Gold Cup, even though I bet against him. If today is as good as yesterday we are in for a treat. A few winners would help.

Readers will know that Ballyburn is my antepost bet for the Brown Advisory at the Cheltenham Festival and needs to be winning this if he has a chance of landing my money. I do think this horse wants three miles, and this is still on the short side, but it’s a lot easier than trying to beat a natural two miler in Sir Gino over two miles that’s for sure. Of his rivals, Impaire Et Passé is a good horse but I think lacks the quality of a Ballyburn in the top grade one events. Champ Kiely won for me on his reappearance after a long time off the track but this is a massive jump in class for the nine year old. The Gordon Elliott pair need to grow wings to be competitive on all known form and the other two will be approaching the second last as the winner jumps the last. Selection: Ballyburn, 1:10 Leopardstown, 1 point win.

Gaelic Warrior is streets ahead of these on his best form. Last year’s Arkle winner. Has been brought along steadily with the DRF and Cheltenham in mind and I expect him to revert to the successful front running tactics of last season. Tongue strap goes back on today. El Fabiolo was a good horse but I wouldn’t trust him to jump over a daisy without falling nowadays and he hasn’t been seen in 281 days. Marine Nationale built up a reputation as a serious horse but it was a rubbish Supreme Novices he won in hindsight and he hasn’t got better. Solness has taken advantage of some good placing by his trainer to win a few races he shouldn’t have and will probably struggle today when not allowed to dominate from the front. Quillixios isn’t a grade one horse, and neither is Captain Guinness who only won a Queen Mother due to mistakes by others during the race. Selection: Gaelic Warrior, 2:10 Leopardstown, 1 point win.

Future Prospect is a £150k purchase who made a terrific start when winning a bumper at Fairyhouse first time up. That is the best bumper form in this field. He made the running, was briefly challenged on the home turn but shot clear when asked. He absolutely hammered a 6/5 Gordon Elliott favourite that day and Gordon doesn’t even bother sending one up against him today. Patrick Mullins will have had the pick of the Mullins horses here and he has probably chosen wisely. This horse has the Cheltenham bumper entry and could be a short price to bring up the festival double after he wins here. Selection: Future Prospect, 4:25 Leopardstown, 1 point win.

Have a 1 point treble also.

Happy DRF

Mav

PS: not one for this columns P&L but I have stuck the above three alongside Kopek Des Bordes (1:40) and State Man (3:30) for a very tasty five-fold acca.

Points? How do I bet? Simply think of a point as your preferred unit stake. If you want to bet in £10s then you would have 3x £10 wins and an £10 treble.

What is the Daily Trio strategy?

The proven betting system and recommended bet is three singles and a treble. As a rough rule of thumb: one winner = money back, two winners = double your money, three winners = jackpot!

Why does the Daily Trio strategy work?

Mav operates at roughly a 33% strike rate for winners over the year, so around one in three selections win. Assuming each winner is 3/1 on average (some are much higher) then each year we should see money back at least based on purely the single bets alone, and the profit comes from the trebles.

This is a long term strategy that works – not a get rich quick scheme. Some tipsters claim to have a ‘20/1 banker that can’t lose’ every day, we don’t. This is maintaining a consistent strike rate from our excellent tipster and sticking to an optimised stake system, perfect for having a bet every day without losing a fortune over the year. We also don’t charge – our site is free.
