From 28 Sep 2026 to 18 Oct 2026, when a runner at 15/1 or shorter was still a standout price at the off — a top price 25% or more clear of the general price — that top price was bigger than its starting price 78% of the time (390 runners). Across every runner at 15/1 or shorter, the top price beat SP 56% of the time (4,794 runners). Standouts often close: taken at the moment one first appeared, the top price beat SP 60% of the time and fell short 32% (3,721 runners).

How often do the odds update?
Prices refresh live while a board is open, right up to the off, so you are always looking at current market prices rather than a stale snapshot from earlier in the day.
What are standout prices?
Runners in today’s UK and Irish races, still to run, where one bookmaker’s top price pays at least 25% more profit than the general price — the middle price across the bookmakers. We list them at 15/1 or shorter, and only when the top price is as current as the rest of its board. Each shows the top price, the bookmaker offering it and the general price; beside the list is the record of how often such a top price was bigger than the starting price. A fact about the market, not a tip.

What does taking the “best odds” actually do for my bet?
The top of the board is the highest price available, which means the biggest potential return for the same stake. On a 5/1 shot, the gap between the best and a short price can be several pounds on a tenner. Our free bet calculator shows exactly what any price returns.
Do better odds really make a difference over time?
The price you take is one of the few parts of a bet a punter fully controls, and the gap between the best and worst price on the same runner is often wider than people expect.
