Light Up The Dark at Cheltenham

Subscribers will know that I spotted this horse before she made her debut, and tipped her up first time out where she coasted home to win unchallenged in the fog.

I’m surprised at the absolute lack of a reaction from anybody to that win. I can only think it’s because all we saw was her appear from the mist on her own. Now she may not be Cheltenham Bumper winner standard, but then again she may be. Light Up The Dark has a lot of potential, and the right trainer in Joseph O’Brien to plot a path to Cheltenham. She won her bumper in the style of a lady version of Constitution Hill. What the horse beat is anyone’s guess, maybe nothing with talent, but all she could do was swat aside the opponents in her way.

This year’s Cheltenham Bumper has no stand out horses at this stage. I’m yet to be impressed by any of the market leaders. Light Up The Dark is the only bumper winner that has impressed me. She may not go to Cheltenham at all – let me be transparent about that – but at odds of 33/1 I’m willing to take a risk now that she does. I have backed her. If she appears in the declarations I’ll be going in again for sure. And again.

Selection: Light Up The Dark, Cheltenham Bumper, 33/1 (where quoted)

*it’s worth adding this horse to your trackers regardless of Cheltenham

******Joseph O’Brien has shared that he thinks the world of this horse, but she is only four and the festival might overface her slightly at this stage of her career. The horse has been bought by JP McManus and will be targeted at the Listed bumper for four-year-olds at Limerick on March 23rd where they are looking forward to her******
