Angles that have paid

at SP, two periods

Past results at starting price, not a forecast. Each angle made a £1 level-stakes profit in both periods (Jan 2005 – Sep 2021, and since Oct 2021), with at least 100 SP-priced runs and 10 winners in all, and is still in profit with its single biggest winner taken out. The same on every view of this page.

No angle at Laytown clears those tests. Nothing here has paid consistently at SP — which is itself worth knowing.

About Laytown

checked October 2026

Layout and key facts

  • Where: The strand at Laytown, County Meath, about 29 miles north of Dublin — Flat only, raced on the beach under the Rules of Racing, the only such meeting in Ireland or Britain.
  • Shape: A straight, near-level 7f course on the sand; races are run over 6f and 7f only, with no turns since the safety changes that followed 1994, and fields are limited, usually to ten runners.
  • Season: One meeting a year, in September, usually six races: handicaps, maidens, claimers and conditions races for older horses.

Going and the seasons

  • September: The wet sand left by the tide usually rides standard or firm; the surface is laid out for the day and depends on the tide.

Signature races and fixtures

  • September: The Laytown Strand Races, the one fixture of the year.

Practical notes

  • Getting there: By road from the M1 (junction 7) then the R132 and R150; by rail to Laytown station from Dublin Connolly or Drogheda, with a raceday shuttle or a short walk; coach and local bus services also serve the meeting, and parking is temporary — follow the signs on the day.
  • Viewing: From the field and dunes above the strand, with temporary marquees and no permanent grandstand; the whole straight course is in view.
