What stands out today
Every runner on today’s GB and Irish cards that meets one of our fixed rules — back in the headgear it last won in, a course or ground winner, a first run over fences, the only habitual front-runner in its race, a career-best KTB Speed last time and more. Each rule is defined, with its own record over the last week. Read from the card and our archive since 2005; evidence, never tips.
Today’s list is being prepared. It is built from the day’s card and the archive about every 20 minutes; the first build lands within a minute of the card being ready.
How this is read
- What is this page?
- Every runner on today’s GB and Irish cards that meets one of our 15 fixed rules — facts read every day from the racecard and each horse’s record in our archive, such as a horse back in the headgear it last won in, a course winner, or a debutant from a Group-winning family. The page lists each race once and each horse once, with every rule it meets and the fact behind it; tap a rule to see only its runners. Every rule is defined at the foot.
- How were the rules chosen?
- In advance, and they are the same every day. They are not tuned to what won yesterday, and a rule that is not met prints nothing. Thresholds such as “20% or more” are set on measurement and stated with the rule.
- Is a horse on this page a tip?
- No. Each line is a fact about the horse — its record, its trip, its ground, its yard. Many runners that meet a rule lose, and some rules will lose far more often than they win. The page shows the evidence and what each rule did over the last week; what you make of it is your call.
- What does “last 7 days” mean?
- Each rule keeps its own record: of the runners that met it in the previous seven days, how many have run and how many won — today is not counted. Under 30 runs it is flagged as a small sample: a week is far too short to judge a rule on.
- Where does this come from?
- Today’s racecard, and Kickthebookies’ own results archive from January 2005, covering Great Britain, Ireland and France. Trainer records come from the same service as every trainer profile, KTB Speed figures from our own Speed engine, and run styles from race comments, which the archive holds from 2024.
- Why do some lines say “in our archive”?
- Because a run abroad, before 2005 or in a point-to-point is not in the archive, so “first run over fences” or “makes its debut” means first in what we hold. Where that matters the line says so.
- What is a jockey change?
- A runner whose jockey now is not the one booked when KTB built the card. The declarations are checked again through the day and every change is recorded with the time it was seen. The line names both riders and the new rider’s record riding for the yard over the last 365 days, with its sample. If the race’s KTB Fit score had already been fixed, the score and the KTB selection were made with the original booking, and the line says so.
