Angles that have paid

at SP, two periods

Past results at starting price, not a forecast. Each angle made a £1 level-stakes profit in both periods (Jan 2005 – Sep 2021, and since Oct 2021), with at least 100 SP-priced runs and 10 winners in all, and is still in profit with its single biggest winner taken out. The same on every view of this page.

No angle at Fontwell clears those tests. Nothing here has paid consistently at SP — which is itself worth knowing.

Layout and key facts

  • Where: Fontwell, between Arundel and Chichester, West Sussex, beside the A27 — jumps only, turf.
  • Shape: The chase course is a figure of eight, tight and undulating; the hurdles course is a left-handed oval of about a mile. The run-in from the last is short.
  • Season: Racing through the winter and the summer, so Fontwell is one of the few British jumps tracks that races on fast summer ground.

Going and the seasons

  • Winter: Soft or heavy ground is common from December to February.
  • Summer: The May to September fixtures usually race on good or good to firm ground.

Signature races and fixtures

  • Southern National: A handicap chase over about 3m3f.

Practical notes

  • Getting there: Signposted from the A27 with parking on site; by rail to Barnham and a short taxi ride.
  • Viewing: The whole figure of eight is in view from the stands.
